The Future of the Profession

No Paper

Abstract

During 2013, ALIA is working on a Future of the Profession initiative, seeking input from influential external stakeholders – government, professional firms, technology giants, corporations, institutions and others – as well as from library and information professionals. The aim is to write our own future, rather than relying on others to write it for us. You can participate in the online discussion – http://aliafutures.wikispaces.com –  and take part in the workshops planned for every state and territory. In her LT Symposium talk, Sue will pull together the outcomes of this extensive consultation process leading up to a major summit of library leaders, to be held in October at the State Library of NSW. She will be talking about the future, not only for institutions, but also for library and information professionals and their career pathways. We may not be able to predict the future, but working together, we can certainly help shape it.
